22 June 2021 – Ambassador Ma. Hellen De La Vega joined the Filipino community in Blacktown in celebrating the 75th anniversary of Philippines-Austaralia relations in an event organized by the office of Hon. Ed Husic, MP on 19 June 2021. Mr. Husic represents Chifley which hosts the largest Filipino constituency in Australia.
Also present in the event were Consul Melanie Diano of the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, Councilor Carol Israel of Blacktown City Council, and Hon. Edmond Atalla of NSW Parliament.
In her remarks, Ambassador De La Vega acknowledged the important contributions of the Filipino community in building the strong friendship between the Philippines and Australia over the last 75 years. Mr. Husic thanked the Filipino-Australian community for their contribution to the quality of life in the electorate of Chifley and paid tribute to Filipino-Australian Pioneers and Achievers, presented by Filipino-Australian Ms. Benie de Ubago, the NSW Premier’s Multicultural Community Awardee in 2020 for lifetime achievement.
