26 June 2026, ALICE SPRINGS – Philippine Ambassador to Australia, H.E. Antonio Morales, met with the Multicultural Community Services of Central Australia (MCSCA) during his official visit to Alice Springs. The meeting discussed the vital role of migrants in Central Australia and the importance of fostering an inclusive and welcoming community.
Ambassador Morales reaffirmed the strong people-to-people links between the Philippines and Australia as both countries celebrate the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.
Ambassador Morales was joined by Alice Springs Mabuhay Multicultural Association Vice President and MCSCA Deputy Chair Hilda Reeder, and President of the Filipino Australian Association of the Northern Territory Emcille Wills.
Founded in 1985 by migrants, majority by a group of Filipinos, MCSCA was established to support newcomers as they settle in Central Australia. The organization provides settlement support for migrants and refugees, promotes inclusion, advocates for multicultural interests, and delivers essential services including emergency assistance and multicultural access to primary healthcare.
During the meeting, MCSCA highlighted the growing presence of Filipinos in Alice Springs and their contributions in enriching the region through cultural exchange, community-led festivals, volunteer initiatives and civic engagement.
Filipinos have also become an integral part of the region’s workforce across essential sectors such as healthcare, aged care, hospitality, education and community services.
Alice Springs, the largest town in Central Australia, is home to more than 28,600, is home to a diverse population, around 30% of whom were born overseas. The Filipino community is an important part of this diversity, with close to 600 residents born in the Philippines. - END
