11 November 2025, CANBERRA – In solemn tribute to the valiant men and women who gave their lives in the pursuit of peace, Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Antonio Morales and Assistant Defence and Armed Forces Attaché joined the 2025 Remembrance Day National Ceremony held at the Australian War Memorial.

Ambassador Morales laid a wreath alongside representatives of the Australian Government, members of the diplomatic corps, and veterans’ organisations. Reflecting on the occasion, Ambassador Morales noted that “Remembrance Day reminds us of the immense sacrifices made in the name of peace.”

The Philippines and Australia share a long and meaningful wartime connection. The military service and sacrifice of our Filipino-Australian veterans goes back as far as 1915, when eight Filipino-Australians from three Darwin families volunteered for service with the Australian military forces during World War I. During World War II, Australian naval and air forces took part in operations that supported the liberation of the Philippines between 1944 and 1945. Australian ships and air units contributed to major engagements across Leyte, Mindoro, and Luzon, including the Battle of Surigao Strait and the Lingayen Gulf landings. These efforts reflect the long-standing and deepening defence cooperation under the bilateral Strategic Partnership.

Remembrance Day is held annually on 11 November to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have served in wars, conflicts and peace operations, and to reflect on the human cost of war and the enduring value of peace. - END
